Mr Harrison is Missing

Three hundred and fifty years ago this month Campden was horrified when a well-known local man did not come home one evening and his bloodstained neck cloth was found next morning near Ebrington. No body could be found and then his servant confessed that he and his mother and brother had committed murder. The story was convincing but two years later, after the three had been hung, there was proof that the alleged murder had never happened – the return of William Harrison rocked London as well as Campden. New information and theories have been incorporated into a retelling of this story – but what really happened? Is it still a mystery? CADHAS is launching a new ‘take’ on the mystery, based on detailed examination of original documents. Jill Wilson, Vice-President of the Society, has written ‘Mr Harrison is Missing’, another CADHAS ‘red’ book of short readable accounts of Campden history. The first book was ‘Campden in the Civil War’.

‘Mr Harrison is Missing’ will be launched over August Bank Holiday weekend Sat 28 – Mon 30 August, together with a Campden Wonder Trail leaflet to encourage people to take a walk round town and imagine the action in 1660.
