Community Archive
bringing together the images, sounds and memories of Campden past and present
Photographs of family groups or community events, borrowed from local people, are scanned into our computer with written or spoken reminiscences. There are now more than 3500 images in the Community Archive, but as yet only a few with added reminiscences. Events and individuals can be cross-referenced, and searches can be made on a variety of topics. Other databases are being built up, with more background information. We are also recording the memories of local people, and then annotate them for entry on to the computer database. References to people and events can then be identified and used for research or creating audio-visual presentations.
Campden Characters
Stories abound about Campden life many years ago and the many characters – some good, some not so good – who livened up the scene. These have now been collected into a book – the second in the CADHAS series of ‘Views of Local Life’.
The book will be launched on Saturday 7 May 2011 in the Court Room, Old Police Station, Chipping Campden. Visitors are invited to ‘Drop-In’ between 2pm and 5pm for refreshments and an opportunity to see a photoshow of Campden Characters and add their own memories. ‘Campden Characters’ will be on sale, price £7, and the authors will be there to share memories about local events and scenes.

‘Teapot’ was a well-known local character. His real name was James, but he was always known by his nickname, which was given him as a boy.
‘Happy’ Joe Court used his horse and dray for many local jobs.
